Oversize transport Bulgaria – Romania

Bulgaria is our southern neighbour and the road to Greece and Turkey. We organise oversize transports between Romania and Bulgaria and transit through Bulgaria, with the Bulgarian permits, the right Danube crossing and the escort required by the dimensions.

What we transport between Bulgaria and Romania

To and from Bulgaria we mainly transport:

  • equipment for energy and infrastructure;
  • construction and agricultural machinery;
  • steel structures and industrial components;
  • transit to Greece and Turkey.

Permits in Bulgaria

In Bulgaria, the movement of oversize and heavy vehicles is regulated by Ordinance no. 11 of 2001. The permit for a route crossing more than two regions is issued by the Road Infrastructure Agency (API); for local roads and streets, the local authorities are also involved.

Crossing the Danube

Between Romania and Bulgaria, the Danube is crossed on bridges, at Giurgiu–Ruse and Calafat–Vidin, or by ferry at a few points. For very heavy or very wide transports, the bridges have their own restrictions, and we choose the right option according to weight and dimensions. In Dobrogea there are also land crossings, without the Danube: Negru Vodă–Kardam and Vama Veche–Durankulak.

Transit to Greece and Turkey

Towards Greece, the route usually continues to the Kulata–Promachonas border; towards Turkey, to Kapitan Andreevo–Kapıkule. For Turkey, the customs formalities must also be prepared. See the pages about Greece and Turkey.

What to send us for a quote

Within the European Union there are no customs formalities, but every country on the route requires its own oversize transport permit.

  • the dimensions and weight of the load, from the data sheet;
  • the exact loading and unloading addresses;
  • the preferred date and how flexible it is;
  • who handles the loading and unloading (crane, ramp);
  • the delivery terms (Incoterms), if you know them;
  • a photo or a drawing of the cargo.
