Oversize transport Belgium – Romania

Belgium matters for oversize transport because of the port of Antwerp-Bruges, one of Europe's major ports for heavy equipment, and its chemical and energy industries. We organise transport from Belgium to Romania and back, with the Belgian regional permits and the permits for the transit countries.

What we transport between Belgium and Romania

To and from Belgium we mainly transport:

  • equipment arriving through the port of Antwerp-Bruges;
  • construction and agricultural machinery;
  • equipment for the chemical and energy industries;
  • structures and industrial components;
  • transports to the United Kingdom, via Zeebrugge.

Permits in Belgium

After the sixth state reform, abnormal load transport became a regional competence in Belgium. Permits are issued by Flanders (Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer), Wallonia (the Public Service of Wallonia) and the Brussels-Capital Region (Brussels Mobility). Applications are submitted on the same online platform, WebTEUV, including for routes crossing several regions.

A permit is needed if the vehicle exceeds 12 m in length (rigid vehicle), 16.50 m (tractor unit with semi-trailer) or 18.75 m (road train), 2.55 m in width, 4 m in height, 44 t for 5-axle combinations or a 3 m rear overhang.

Travel restrictions

The travel rules differ between regions. In Flanders and Brussels, where the federal rules still apply, abnormal loads generally do not travel from Saturday 12:00 to midnight on Sunday, and public holidays have their own restrictions. The exact conditions are those in the permit.

The route to Romania

The route usually goes through Germany, Austria and Hungary or through Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. We can also collect equipment arriving by sea from Belgian ports.

What to send us for a quote

Within the European Union there are no customs formalities, but every country on the route requires its own oversize transport permit.

  • the dimensions and weight of the load, from the data sheet;
  • the exact loading and unloading addresses;
  • the preferred date and how flexible it is;
  • who handles the loading and unloading (crane, ramp);
  • the delivery terms (Incoterms), if you know them;
  • a photo or a drawing of the cargo.
