Permits in the Czech Republic
In the Czech Republic, an oversize transport needs a special road use permit (“povolení zvláštního užívání”), issued by the authority that manages the road category: the Ministry of Transport for motorways, the regional office (krajský úřad) for class I roads and the municipal offices for smaller roads. For transit, export or routes crossing several regions, the permit is issued by the Ministry of Transport.
Escort and restrictions
The number of technical escort vehicles is set by the road authority in the permit, according to the dimensions, weight and route. If a police escort is needed, the traffic police decide, and for larger transports the authority asks for the police's consent before issuing the permit.
The Czech Republic has restrictions for trucks over 7.5 t on Sundays and public holidays, plus additional restrictions in summer, between 1 July and 31 August.
The route to Romania
From Romania, the usual route goes through Hungary and Slovakia, via Bratislava towards Brno. For a transport from Germany, the route through the Czech Republic is an alternative to the one through Austria.
