Oversize transport Switzerland – Romania
Switzerland has strict rules for heavy vehicles and is not part of the European Union, so an oversize transport to or from Switzerland needs both the Swiss permit and customs formalities. We organise the transport of industrial machines, power equipment and machinery, with the documents prepared before departure.

What we transport between Switzerland and Romania
To and from Switzerland we mainly transport:
- industrial machines and precision equipment;
- power equipment;
- construction machinery;
- components and structures.
Permits in Switzerland
Switzerland requires a special permit (“Sonderbewilligung”) for vehicles and transports that exceed the legal limits, including the 40 t gross weight. For imports and transit, the permit is issued by the canton where the transport enters the country, and is valid for the whole of Switzerland.
If the route uses national roads and the transport exceeds 30 m in length, 3 m in width, 4 m in height, 44 t or 12 t per axle, the application must also be submitted to the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA).
Night and Sunday restrictions
Vehicles over 3.5 t do not travel at night, between 22:00 and 5:00, nor on Sundays and public holidays. For oversize transports, any exceptions are written directly into the special permit, as one of its conditions, without a separate application.
Customs and the route
Because Switzerland is not part of the EU, the transport goes through customs: an export or import declaration and, usually, transit under customs control. We prepare the documents before departure, so that the transport does not wait at the border. Towards Romania, the route usually goes through Austria and Hungary or through Germany.
What to send us for a quote
For countries outside the European Union we add the customs documents: the export or import declaration, the transit document and, where applicable, the bilateral transport permits.
- the dimensions and weight of the load, from the data sheet;
- the exact loading and unloading addresses;
- the preferred date and how flexible it is;
- who handles the loading and unloading (crane, ramp);
- the delivery terms (Incoterms), if you know them;
- a photo or a drawing of the cargo.
