Oversize transport Germany – Romania

Germany is the most common origin of the oversize machinery and equipment that comes to Romania: used machinery dealers, auction houses, manufacturers of industrial machines and of energy components. We organise transport in both directions, with the permits for Germany and the transit countries, the escort required on each section and a single coordinator for the whole route.

What we transport between Germany and Romania

We work with buyers in Romania who bring machinery from Germany and with German companies delivering equipment to Romania.

  • used construction machinery from dealers and auction houses: excavators, loaders, bulldozers, cranes;
  • agricultural machinery: combines, large tractors, seed drills and sprayers;
  • machine tools, presses and production lines for factories;
  • transformers, generators and wind energy components;
  • steel structures, tanks and precast elements;
  • in the opposite direction, equipment and structures made in Romania for customers in Germany.

Permits in Germany: VEMAGS

In Germany, a transport that exceeds the legal weights or dimensions needs a route permit and, often, an exemption for the vehicle. Applications are submitted and tracked through VEMAGS, the online system used by the German authorities for large and heavy transports (Großraum- und Schwertransporte).

The authority that receives the application obtains the consent of the other authorities and of the road and bridge administrators on the route, then issues the permit, with the route, the time windows and the escort conditions. For heavy transports, the bridge checks take the longest.

Escort and travel times

Germany works with private, certified escort vehicles. BF3 vehicles have a variable message sign that warns other traffic. BF4 vehicles additionally have staff who can take over part of the traffic control, where the authorities allow it. For very large transports, the permit may also require a police escort.

On Sundays and public holidays, trucks over 7.5 t do not travel, with the exceptions provided by law. In summer, Saturday restrictions apply on certain motorways. Large transports usually travel in the night-time windows set by the permit.

The route to Romania

The most common routes go through Austria and Hungary, entering Romania at Nădlac II or Borș II, or through the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. We choose the route according to the dimensions, the bridge restrictions and the permit lead times in each country, because every transit country requires its own permit. The transport leaves only once we have all the permits, so that it does not wait at the border.

Have you bought a machine at an auction or from a dealer in Germany? Send us the link to the listing or the data sheet. We coordinate the loading with the seller, check the actual dimensions at lifting and prepare the transport documents.

What to send us for a quote

Within the European Union there are no customs formalities, but every country on the route requires its own oversize transport permit.

  • the dimensions and weight of the load, from the data sheet;
  • the exact loading and unloading addresses;
  • the preferred date and how flexible it is;
  • who handles the loading and unloading (crane, ramp);
  • the delivery terms (Incoterms), if you know them;
  • a photo or a drawing of the cargo.

Questions about oversize transport in Germany

How long do the permits take for a transport from Germany?

It depends on the dimensions, the weight and the number of federal states and countries on the route. Transports that only exceed the width are usually authorised faster than heavy ones, for which the bridges are checked. In the quote we tell you the realistic timeline for your route.

Does a transport from Germany have to go through Austria?

No. The route through the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary is a common alternative. We choose it according to the permits, the restrictions on the route and the driving bans in each country.

Can you load a machine that does not start?

Yes, by crane or with a winch, depending on its weight and the loading site. Tell us from the start so we can plan the right equipment.

Do you have an oversize transport from or to Germany?

Tell us what we are moving, from where and to where. We send you a quote with the route, the permits from each country and a realistic timeline, for most requests in under 30 minutes during office hours.
